We’ve been holding our breath and waiting for the day when we could tell everyone the exciting news! As the title implies, we’re expecting our first baby!! I’m 11 weeks along and nearing the end of the first trimester. We had originally planned on waiting until 12 weeks to tell everyone, which is what most people consider the point at which it’s unlikely you will miscarry, but we had an appointment at 10 weeks 1 day and our results were so good that we felt confident sharing a little early. Some of you may know and many may not, but I had a miscarriage last fall. It was a really tough time for Josh and I but we got through it and we accepted the fact that God had other plans for us. It might not have made sense at the time but we would someday understand. This time around my pregnancy has been very different. For starters, I’ve been overwhelmed by morning sickness (which is a total lie, it’s morning, noon and night sickness!). The one good thing about it is that it’s usually a very good sign that the pregnancy is healthy. I’m still fighting through it now but at 12 to 13 weeks it should hopefully subside. I’ve been told by many moms that one day you just wake up and notice it’s gone, I’m looking forward to that!
I’ve had three visits with the doctor so far. I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks that showed a very strong heart rate of 130. We couldn’t see much more at that point. All of my lab work has come back and we’ve had great results. Last week I had my 10 week ultrasound which isn’t typical but because of my past miscarriage they felt was necessary (probably to calm our fears more than anything). It was absolutely amazing. The baby was moving all around with its arms waving and legs kicking. The heart rate was a very strong 176 beats per minute. We could see the eye socket and even the nose. The doctor said strong heart rates tend to indicate little girls but the ultrasound tech said not to count on that because she’s seen it go both ways, so time will tell what we’ll have! We’ll be thrilled either way.
I have appointments every 4 weeks but it won’t be until my 18 week appointment in July when we find out if it’s a boy or a girl. We definitely plan to share that news so keep an eye out for that post. Oh, and the due date is December 8. It’s one day after my parents birthdays so they’re rooting for a lucky 7 baby.
Above is the photo from the 10 week ultrasound. I would show you a belly pic but I don’t have one yet (a belly that is). I’ve gained a whopping 1 lb at this point and other than feeling bloated and full all the time that’s about the only change. I’m still in my regular clothes with no unbuttoning necessary... yet. You better believe I’ll share a belly pic as soon as I have one where you can actually see it. They said by 14 weeks I should be showing. Maybe I need to eat few donuts to get there quicker (kidding!! I’m sure the weight will be here soon enough).
We’ll keep everyone posted as we go along this crazy ride! Please keep us in your prayers though. Pregnancy is such a scary, exciting time and we know that the months ahead still hold a lot of unknown. We have faith that this little guy or girl is strong and will be the best early Christmas present we’ve ever received!
Love,
Jenny and Josh
PS - Darby is super excited to be a big brother. I want to get him one of those "big brother" t-shirts but something tells me he won't wear it, ha.
