Beach Bum

This weekend we made our first trip to the beach, crazy talk since we live in Florida! That's probably the only thing we dislike about Gainesville is that we're in the dead center of the state an hour either way from the Atlantic or the Gulf. Josh and I both grew up near the beach so we definitely want to plan many more trips for Colton. We hope someday to live closer or at least have a home nearby (wouldn't we all, ha). Anyway, we drove up to Amelia Island to visit our friends the Doehne's and big boy Connor. They were in town from Charlotte for a wedding.

Colton would not stop looking down at the water and the sand. He wasn't sure what to think of it. Connor was just adorable and kept playing in the sand, I'm looking forward to trips when Colton is that age. Big enough to realize this is something new and different and exciting. Right now he was just "studying" it and trying to figure it out.

The funniest part was Colton's face plant. I get "mom of the year" award for this one. He knows how to sit up now and normally does a really great job. I think he was a little unsteady in the sand so while sitting beside me he face planted in the sand. As I pulled him up I'm imagining little pieces of sand in the poor baby's eyes, thank goodness that wasn't the case! Just all over his nose and mouth. Rather than rush to get it off we stopped for pictures like any good parents would do.

Laugh Until You Cry

Last night we had one of the funniest moments yet with Colton (and there have been plenty!). Darby got something in his nose and couldn't stop sneezing. Colton thought this was the most hysterical thing he had ever seen in his short 5 months of life!! He was laughing so hard he turned bright red and was hardly able to catch his breath. I was holding him so I can tell you that those were the deepest little belly laughs I have ever seen!!

Mother’s Day and Colton’s Dedication

I’m a little late getting this posted but things have been pretty busy. I wanted to share some photos from my first Mother’s Day which was also Colton’s dedication. As you can imagine, it was perfect. We had both of our parents in town for the dedication. We woke up Sunday morning and Josh and my dad cooked my mom and me a yummy breakfast. We got ready for church and all headed over to First Baptist Church of High Springs for the dedication. There were quite a few babies being dedicated, including two babies that belong to our friends (baby Adelle and Titus). It was a great service and having our family there made it so much more special. We absolutely love our church and our parents do as well which is nice. We have made so many friends there and it makes getting up early on a weekend so easy (well, maybe not easy, but definitely worthwhile). Colton loves to visit the nursery, the ladies there just adore him and he’s always happy and smiling when we pick him up. We’ve taken him to the service before and he seems to like the music but it’s hard for Josh and I to pay attention because we’re always so paranoid that he’s going to get fussy. He was great during the dedication although at one point he actually lunged for my Mother’s Day corsage, assumingly to eat it.

After church we went back to our house and I prepared lunch for everyone. I made a honey glazed ham, homemade biscuits, corn on the cob, yummy onion cheese dip and a chocolate chip pound cake. A few things to make note of for our next gathering….more food! I was worried about making too much and having tons of leftovers and instead we had just enough. My favorite was the pound cake. I got the recipe from Southern Living and it was DELICIOUS!

Oh, and for Mother’s Day Colton made me a handmade apron with his handprints and some great fridge art. When I picked him up from daycare on Friday I cried, I couldn’t believe I was receiving my first homemade Mother’s Day gifts!! I also got two beautiful cards (one from my hubby and one from Colton) and beautiful, gorgeous….not sure yet! Josh ordered me something that I’m sure is wonderful and he even paid for expedited shipping, but what he didn’t realize was that production takes weeks! Honestly, I could have cared less that I didn’t have a gift to open, which is saying a lot for an only child, all I needed was one look into the eyes of the most amazing gift ever.

All in all it was a perfect weekend. We discovered the next day (Monday) that Colton actually was suffering from an ear infection and had ruptured his ear drum. Amazing because that little guy never even let on that he was sick. Of course we felt horrible that he was in pain and we didn’t realize it, but we now know that we have one tough little bugger and we need to keep an eye on him for signs of illness!
