Just a little trim

72730026

It’s been a while since Colton had his first haircut but I just kept forgetting to post the photos. We made an appointment for him at our local JCPenney. I couldn’t find any children’s haircut places in town and I knew JCPenney took them so I figured, why not.

Colton did so well getting his haircut and I wasn’t as emotional as I expected. He was such a charmer in the salon and he sat perfectly still in the chair while she trimmed up his hair. Silly me forgot our camera so the nice stylist actually let us use hers and then printed out copies and made us a cd. So nice! Of course we saved a little of his sandy blonde hair. Considering how curly Josh’s was as a little boy I’m surprised how straight Colton’s is, he gets that from my side!

My handsome little guy looked so sharp with his new “do.” It’s already grown out to the point of needing another trim but mom may attempt this one on her own. $25 for a child’s trim was just a bit too much for my taste. So how hard can it be????

Happy Birthday Mom H

We just returned from a quick trip to Crestview for Mom H’s birthday. We had a great time visiting with Great Nana and Great Mamaw and Colton loved playing with his Papa and Nana. Here are a few photos from the visit. I stole dad’s awesome DSLR camera and fell in love!!

Race Weekend

I have few updates to post so bare with me. I think I mentioned a while back that race training wasn’t going so hot because Colton was having some trouble sleeping but thankfully we re-sleep trained and he’s been a champ ever since. I had started running more and was getting back on track with my training schedule.

Two weeks before the race I had an awesome 7 mile run pushing Colton while he napped in the jogging stroller. After I ran I started having some trouble with my right foot so I did some online research and talked it over with the staff at my local running store and I came to the conclusion it was plantar fascia. It’s a common running injury but the only “cure” is rest, stretching and patience.

Long story short, the week before the race I called the race director and asked if it was possible to switch to the 5k. Our health insurance is very expensive right now so it wasn’t an option to risk injury and have to pay full price for doctors appointments, MRIs or PT (I’ve never had to meet a deductible before and it stinks!!).

Saturday I got up early and ran the 5k. I actually had a great run. I was slower than normal but I felt great the entire time, even on the hills. I finished in 34 minutes. Not great, but I’ll take it! Most importantly, my foot felt good.

Sunday was the half marathon and Josh and my sister-in-law Caitlin (who I asked to run with me) were ready to go. Caitlin had been training but had an IT band issue that had been bugging her. She’s a trooper and toughed it out anyway! Josh had done zero training. He’s probably run a total of 3 miles in the last 6 months!! Oh to be a guy Smile

Because the company I work for is involved in organ and tissue donation (one of the 5 points of life), I took Colton and worked at our water station at mile 9. We were able to see both Josh and Caitlin pass through and they were both doing great. Tired, but making good time and ready to finish. We jumped in the car and met Caitlin’s husband Mike at the finish and waited on Josh and Caitlin.

Josh crossed first and shortly after Caitlin crossed. They were both tired but so excited to be done!! I’m so proud of both of them and I wish more than anything I could have joined them. We had a celebratory breakfast at Flying Biscuit after the race. Oh, and I have to add that my insane husband not only stopped to chat with me and kiss Colton, he stopped and chatted with his friend Brad and stopped to eat some girl scout cookies someone was handing out. Really!?! What a nut.

Since my foot has felt great I’m planning to run in early April in Pensacola in a half marathon on the beach. I’ve worked too hard to let this training go to waste! It’s very important to Josh and I that we set a good example of a healthy, active lifestyle for Colton AND an example of what you can achieve if you just put your mind to it!!

Sending Lots of Love

Happy Valentine’s Day! This morning Colton woke up to a sweet surprise from his mama and daddy. Valentine’s has never been a huge event for Josh and me but it’s fun now that we have a day to show Colton even more love and attention than we already do :) I am looking forward to the delicious meal Josh is preparing tonight. We always celebrate at home with a nice meal that Josh prepares for me. It’s been our tradition since our first Valentines together 6 1/2 years ago!

For his first valentines Colton made sugar cookies with red sprinkles and wrote a special note to his friends at school. Well, he held the glue stick and tried to eat it while I made them, but you get the point. I also added the main allergens to the back side of the valentines, ha ha. Not something I would have ever thought to do but now that we have a confirmed diagnosis (peanut allergy) I am a million times more focused on what goes into my child’s body – and his little buddies!

After a round of stomach virus last week (the second since Colton started daycare) I’m hopeful that this week will be illness free! I’m off to Madison, WI on Wednesday and won’t be home until Friday. I checked and the highs are going to be in the 40’s which is fairly warm for this time of year. I’m thrilled…really, I am. Despite freezing to death, it should be a good trip. I’m heading up to do some meetings with our fine Wisconsin legislators at the capitol. I’ve made the trip to Tallahassee for these sort of meetings but this will be my first to another state’s capital, I’m looking forward to it.

More on the peanut allergy and our big boy soon. I’m still wrapping my brain around what this will mean for our family. When your child has an allergy that scores 4 out of 5 on the seriousness scale, it’s scary and overwhelming. Coming from someone with zero allergies, this is taking some time to settle in.

Below is Colton enjoying a little early morning dance.

They Call Him the Streaker!

After our major peanut butter scare things have settled down quite a bit. We’ve spent a lot of time at home on the weekends and I must say…it’s been nice! While we haven’t accomplished as much as we would have liked, we have really enjoyed not having to pack and leave and come home to piles of laundry.

Josh has been hard at work on the bonus room. We have closet walls (drywall) up now and the next step is to put on the putty and finish it out. Eventually we’ll get to painting and floors and finally furniture. Hopefully it’s not too far away but having to alternate watching a crazy toddler makes it a little challenging (friends without babies – do your projects now while time is plentiful!!).

I have to share one of the cutest ever pictures of Colton. He tore off from the bathroom while I was filling the tub and he hopped on his 4-wheeler and took off down the hallway. Of course I ran to get the camera and as soon as he saw me with it he pulled out the biggest cheesy grin ever! I’m sure he’ll be embarrassed one day but thankfully mama knows photoshop!

the streaker

He cracks us up daily with his antics, usually involving escapes from any sort of “pen” we set up to keep him in while we work in the kitchen, reorganization of our cabinets, and streaking. He also loves throwing the ball for Darby. He will point his finger and talk to him in his own language and tell him to get the ball or to sit in his sternest possible voice.

Because so many people have asked I’m letting you all know that we did make Colton an appointment with an allergy specialist and he goes next week. We hope to get to the bottom of his reaction and we’re taking all the necessary precautions to make sure it doesn't  happen again – and if it does, we’ll be prepared.  We pray daily for God to protect and look over him and we’re so grateful for all the times He has healed our little man already!

Love,
Jenny
