I have few updates to post so bare with me. I think I mentioned a while back that race training wasn’t going so hot because Colton was having some trouble sleeping but thankfully we re-sleep trained and he’s been a champ ever since. I had started running more and was getting back on track with my training schedule.
Two weeks before the race I had an awesome 7 mile run pushing Colton while he napped in the jogging stroller. After I ran I started having some trouble with my right foot so I did some online research and talked it over with the staff at my local running store and I came to the conclusion it was plantar fascia. It’s a common running injury but the only “cure” is rest, stretching and patience.
Long story short, the week before the race I called the race director and asked if it was possible to switch to the 5k. Our health insurance is very expensive right now so it wasn’t an option to risk injury and have to pay full price for doctors appointments, MRIs or PT (I’ve never had to meet a deductible before and it stinks!!).
Saturday I got up early and ran the 5k. I actually had a great run. I was slower than normal but I felt great the entire time, even on the hills. I finished in 34 minutes. Not great, but I’ll take it! Most importantly, my foot felt good.
Sunday was the half marathon and Josh and my sister-in-law Caitlin (who I asked to run with me) were ready to go. Caitlin had been training but had an IT band issue that had been bugging her. She’s a trooper and toughed it out anyway! Josh had done zero training. He’s probably run a total of 3 miles in the last 6 months!! Oh to be a guy
Because the company I work for is involved in organ and tissue donation (one of the 5 points of life), I took Colton and worked at our water station at mile 9. We were able to see both Josh and Caitlin pass through and they were both doing great. Tired, but making good time and ready to finish. We jumped in the car and met Caitlin’s husband Mike at the finish and waited on Josh and Caitlin.

Josh crossed first and shortly after Caitlin crossed. They were both tired but so excited to be done!! I’m so proud of both of them and I wish more than anything I could have joined them. We had a celebratory breakfast at Flying Biscuit after the race. Oh, and I have to add that my insane husband not only stopped to chat with me and kiss Colton, he stopped and chatted with his friend Brad and stopped to eat some girl scout cookies someone was handing out. Really!?! What a nut.

Since my foot has felt great I’m planning to run in early April in Pensacola in a half marathon on the beach. I’ve worked too hard to let this training go to waste! It’s very important to Josh and I that we set a good example of a healthy, active lifestyle for Colton AND an example of what you can achieve if you just put your mind to it!!
Love,
Jenny
